Bottle, hot water, ceramic, stoneware. Dark cream glaze, all over, including inside neck, but missing from part of base, and interior of pits on neck. Near circular face-on, flattened oval in cross section, flattened and slightly expanded at base, which is slightly concave. Slight ridge around rim of body. Neck rises smoothly from top centre of body, slightly flared, flat topped, threaded for screw-in stopper (missing), right hand twist. On either side is a small pit or hole in the side of the neck, but which does not perforate the wall of the neck. These two pits are opposite each other but not centred, ie offset. Over each one is a slight protuberance or lip. The top of the neck rises slightly on each side to these points also. On one face, in circular floral motif, (in circle) The "Adaptable" Hot Water Bottle / & Bed Warmer, with within circle, a double line circle with, within, hatched interior. Overlying this, a shield, with a folded scroll diagonally across it from top right to centre left. Centre, above the scroll, Rd. No. / 443310, on the scroll, Made at / The Old Fulham Pottery. / Estd A.D. 1671., and below scroll, All / Waterbottles / Should Be Warmed / Before Being Filled / with Boiling / Water.. Other side, (circular) Laird's Medical Hall / Limerick, around circular line with, within it, Depot for / Sick Room Requisites, / Hot Water Bottles, / Feeding Cups, / Bed Pans, Enemas, / Inhalers, Surgical Dressings, / Waterproof Sheetings &c.. The lettering is in black, slightly sunk. At the top of the bottle, on the ridge around the body, there is on one side 2, slightly sunk also.
