Receipt, printed and ms. Black on white. Single sheet, folded in half and printed on first and last side only. First side; "Stamp Office, Dublin,/ No. [37 19] day of [January] 183[8]/ Received from [Peter O'Brien]/ Distributer of Stamps for [Limerick] the Sum of/ [Twenty six pounds eleven shillings]/ on Account of Stamp Duties, being the Amount of his/ remittance for the week end the {"his" to "the" crossed out} [a payment of this day per Mrs Maria Moore]]/ {ps} [26.11.0/ Robert Tyrrell] Receiver-General/ [H. Cooper] Comptroller./ To the Distributer of Stamps./ [Limerick]". Final page "To/ Distributer of Stamps,/ [Limerick]/ Post Paid./ [9d]". Back forms the address; both ends folded inward, bottom upwards then top down and sealed with impressed "GR" made up of dots inside a circle of dots. Rectangular red cancellation over address "Paid/ JA19E/ 1838"; second circular black cancellation on reverse as folded "Limerick/ JA 20/ 1838". Message on page 2 signed E. Melford?, requesting the money be paid to Mrs Moore, residing near the Balls Bridge, former intimate companion of Lady Powerscourt. Hole in paper where seal opened. Watermark; a crowned cartouche, central design lost to hole in paper, GM under and parallel lines.
