Pistol percussion action, by Colgan, Limerick. Octagonal iron barrel, with one inset silver? band next to hammer; iron ramrod attached to the end of the barrel with swivel action bars and ring. Fish shaped hammer head. Side plate, hammer and lower barrel engraved with flowing and spiral foliage. Barrel held to wooden stock mid way along its length with an iron rivet, passing through rectangular brass? plates with clipped corners. Breech held in place by screw through stock from opposite side to hammer, and at top; one screw holding side plate from hammer side. C-shaped trigger guard. Rounded butt ornamented with a trellis pattern within a triple groove border. Small plain inset silver? rectangle on top of stock behind hammer. "Colgan engraved in small capitals on side plate; on centre of upper facet of barrel "(Lim)er(i)ck", very worn.
