Address, illuminated, of congratulation to William O'Sullivan junior of Kilmallock on his release from 'an English dungeon', illuminated by Henry O'Shea, 10 March 1869. The text of the address is on the r., mainly below centre, with the heading, richly coloured, on panels of differing widths above. The l. third and the area below the address are ornamented with spiralling leaves on stems, in red, orange and blue, on a green background, the spaces between having spiral stems in ink. Above l., within a border in the form of an inverted heart, is a drawing of Hibernia chained, seated, facing r., a harp with the bow in the form of a fish under her l. arm, a sailing ship on the sea in r. background, a round tower and high cross in l. background. Below l. is a circular photograph of the Dominican Friary, Kilmallock, within a border of bands of differing colours, inscribed above: Not forgetting Cromwell's sword. Below the text is a small circular photo of the Treaty Stone within a similar border, inscribed on the border: not forgetting Saxon faith. To each side of the friary photo, below, are bordered circles inscribed within: Illuminated / by / Henry O'Shea / Limerick, and Limerick / March 10th / 1869. The text is autographed below by the deputation presenting the address, in three columns: 1. Charles O'Neill, Henry O'Shea, Thomas Ryan, Thomas Ryan. 2. William Edmond White, P. O'Shaughnessy, Michael O'Brien, Patrick Brazill. 3. William Edmond WHite, chairman, Thomas Ryan, secretary. The whole is bordered with short panels in alternating red and green, the green containing triple laurel leaves within volutes, the panels within borders of white and green, the green formerly gilt. Framed after receipt by museum.
