Cup, Limerick silver two handled cup by Joseph Johns, c. 1740. Bell shaped bowl with reeded band between the handles, waisted stem and convex expanding hollow foot, grooved at the junction with the stem and at the foot rim. Double C-scroll handles, with raised foliate thumb rests, attached at the bottom to raised oval plates, and at the top with a raised ridge and groove oval with a ridge and groove tail towards the mid-band. Inscribed below the rim: The Ladies Plate, Sandown, 1889 - Won by Capt. Orr Ewing's b.g. "Cloister" 6 yrs owner. Marks: II, lion rampant between, on shield, on each side below inscription, between "The" and "Ladies" on one side, and upside down below "Capt" on the other. Scratched under foot: 2/28 oz, and 2/2/47? Compass dot on base of bowl and solder of stem - bowl join visible below, and hammer marks under foot.
