Clay tobacco pipe made for John Clune, tobacco manufacturer, Limerick, c. 1880. Long narrow slightly bulbous bowl at an angle of c. 45 degrees to the stem. No heel. One side of the bowl has raised ornament, a flag on flagpole, on flag dots towards pole and horizontal grooves on remainder, a sprig of shamrock to l. and formerly to r., and above and below, raised: Long Live / Parnell. The opposite side has a harp with four strings, a sprig of shamrock to each side, inscribed above and below: Erin go / bragh. Stem broken off near bowl through rectangle for inscription on each side, J surviving on one face.
