Letter. Bundle of eleven attached, numbers 2, 10 and 11 glued at the edge, the rest folded and sewn down the middle, sewing now removed. From papers of Maurice Lenihan.
1. (formerly glued to 2) To Daniel O'Brien, Clonmel, from D Hoye? (in haste) Dublin 20 Aug 1836, giving advice on procedure as an intended law student at Kings Inns. One sheet folded, written three sides, address on fourth. Seal missing.
2. To Maurice Lenihan from J W Hanna, Ballykinlar, Clough, Co Down, 19 Feb 1865, answering Lenihans enquiry re RC bishops of Limerick. He sent a sheet of queries to Dr McCarthy of Maynooth and received replies which added nothing. Mentions White Manuscript in possession of Dr Cussen of Bruff - presumes that Lenihan can easily procure this. Asks if Lenihan can procure the late Dr Oliver's collections about the Jesuits - if he has not, Hanna will cut out the pages re John Butler, appointed bishop in 1778 which he declined; as also cut out of Duffy's Magazine the notice of Bishop Arthur (1623-46) and O'Dwyer (1645-54?). Mentions Life of Vincent de Paul by Henry Bedford, in which is account of Vincentians in Limerick, 1645, published by Duffy, Dublin: Hanna has notice from the Freeman containing the Limerick portion, which Lenihan can have. In coming week he will get something on Quin and Lacy, Howley and O'Monoley. Would rather not cut out the leaves if Lenihan did get Olivers collections - these he should keep safe and return. Reference to Dr Kelly's essays, recently published, in appendix to which Dr McCarthy refers to Lacy. A second separate page has extracts from Index of Abbeys of Cistercians in Ireland. Watermark p.2: & Sons. Small embossed seal on p.2 top l., a crown or trident. White paper. H. 18.0 W. 11.4
3. To Maurice Lenihan from J W Hanna, postscript to last, on separate cut sheet. Forgot to say that should he require the original volume of Sr Oliver's collections, and it would take a considerable quantity of postage stamps to send, about 3 or 4 pounds. Initialled J.W.H. Pale blue paper. H. 8.7 W. 19.4
