The Nail. Limestone baluster-form pillar with flat bronze or brass top. The shaft is made of three separate sections, base, stem and bowl. Base and bowl have simple roll moulding. The stem is carinated towards the base and has a collar below the bowl. All three have very shallow vertical fluting. The top is flat with a narrow rim and a central perforation, and a second repaired perforation towards the rim. Presented to the city of Limerick by Robert Smith, Mayor, 1685, and stood at the front of the Exchange, Nicholas Street.
