Appointment, manuscript. Appointment by John Bayly of Debsborough, Nenagh, of one seventh of consols and government stock in favour of his daughter Miss Charlotte Bayly, in contemplation of her marriage with John Beatty Barrington Esq. dated 23rd July 1887. References to an indenture of 2/9/1857 between John Bayly (1st part) Ann Barrington (2nd), Mary Ann Charlotte Barrington (afterwards Bayly), daughter of Ann Barrington, (3rd part) and Joseph Walker, Charles Samuel Bagot, Croker Barrington and Joseph Barrington (4th). Written on one side of parchment, with red ruled margins round; lower edge folded up and fastened with parchment at either side; at centre a length of green tape with red wax bearing seal on it. Matrix of a man's profile in an oval, identical to that on 1997.0242.43. Signature of John Bayly around seal. At top left duty stamp, red embossed paper; four lobed with crown at centre "87/ P" above, "23" to left "8" to right and "Ten/ Shillings" below. lead strip through stamp, black on white paper stamp on reverse, a crown over VR". "10/-/ Preston 22/8/87" in pencil below stamp. JM/2389" above signature. Rectangular piece of paper appears to be missing from lower left margin, glue mark remaining. Witnessed on reverse by John Smithwick, gent., Shanbally, Nenagh and R.E. Bayly, Land Agent Debsborough Nenagh. In pencil to left of witnesses "2 Witnesses/ sign here names, addresses and occupations. Folded twice latitudinally then from each side to middle. Outer cover annotated as to contents and marked "No.3/ Box 10".
