Drawing, sketch, charcoal and white paint on thin card, bust of a man by William Dermod O'Brien while a student at the English Academy, Rome (1886?). Side view of a man facing right, wearing a dark jacket, shirt with white collar and a hat, right arm extended as if painting. White paint on shirt collar and on area in front of bottom of nose to chin. In pencil below, l. in separated lettering, W.D. O'Brien, and r. in script, (Student English Academy / Rome). Card pale brown with watermark legible from back towards bottom, Vidal, in open lettering. Left and top edges straight, bottom edge wavy, r. edge irregular, narrower at top.
