Document, legal; manuscript on parchment. Lease by Sir Henry Hartstonge Bart. to the Hon Thomas Knox of ground in S. Priorsland, for rent of 6-0-0 p.a., dated 9th June 1796. Lease for three lives, William, Amos and Thomas the three eldest sons of William Monsell of Tervoe. Reference to a map , not present; "plot or angle of ground adjoining the premises lately set by Lord Viscount Pery to Thomas McMahon", "bounded on the one front by the street leading from the new bridge towards Saint Georges Church and on another front by the cross street running down to the River Shannon. Single sheet of parchment, folded up at bottom, joined at two points with pink tape, sealed over the cloth and signed by the two parties. Red wax seal, left hand one smeared and unreadable; right hand a shield showing a bird stretching wings, supported by two tethered falcons? wings open but not widespread, motto under illegible. At top left blue paper stamp duty stamp; wreathed and crowned harp with "II Shillings/ VI Pence" under, with paper stamp on reverse, crowned GR monogram. Folded from top and bottom to centre then in half; then from both ends to centre and in half. Witnesses on first fold, for Thomas Knox, Pryce Peacock and Robert Nugent, for Hartstonge Pryce Peacock and William Rose. Annotated with contents on outer side as fully folded. In different hand below, "449" crossed out and "610" substituted. Two blue stamps, one rectangular "Finally Delivered" the other oval, "[Maltese cross] H.C.J.I. [Maltese cross]/ Land Judges, Deeds Office" around and at centre "Box [ms]457-8-9]/ Sch [ms]A/ No [ms]405". In pencil at top right "Bundle 13 Part 1/ Box 2" and in blue pencil at bottom "172"
