Document, legal; manuscript on parchment. Lease by Lord Viscount Pery and Sir Henry Hartstonge to Peter Monsell of a plot of ground at Newtown Pery, dated 1 April 1794. lease for three lives, Elizabeth Monsell (nee Crawford) wife of lessee, and two of their children Anna Maria and Richard. Single sheet of parchment, turned up at the bottom, joined together with black tape and sealed over tape, with signatures of the lessors and lessee. Red wax seal, identical matrix on all three, a classical helmed bust. Map, on parchment, attached at bottom left with two strips of parchment, shows Bedford Row, Thomas St., O'Connell Street junction; at junction of the two roads a block marked "Site of where the New Church stood", O'Connell St, marked as "New Street from the New Bridge", Bedford Row as "New Street from the Shannon"; outlines in black, blocks in yellow, purple and greenish black; no scale given below, but dimensions on map. At top left blue paper embossed stamp, showing a crowned harp in a wreath with "II Shillings/ VI Pence" below; stamp duty; white paper stamp with monogram GR on reverse directly behind. Below that a black stamp, a circle with "22/ Pence inside. Folded from top and bottom to centre, then in half, then from either end to centre and then in half. Witnessed twice on reverse, once for Hartstonge and Monsell, witnesses Pryce Peacock and henry Harte, and onece for Pery, witnesses Henry Harte and John Murphy. Annotated with contents on outside as fully folded; to right of annotation in pencil "Bundle No. 5 Box 7"; below "Fol 229" crossed out "Fol 424" substituted (cf. 1987.122); in blue pencil "3" in a circle. Two blue stamps on the outside, one rectangular "Finally/ Delivered", the other oval partially in ms. "[maltese cross] H.C.J.I. [Maltese Cross]/ Land Judges, Deeds Office" around, at centre "Box [ms]8457-8-9/ SCH [ms]A/ No. [ms]79". In pencil on reverse No. 98 Rental".
