Document, legal; manuscript on parchment. Lease by Sir Henry Hartstonge Bart. to William Hogg, whip maker, of land in South Priors Land, dated 10th April 1772. Lease on three lives, the three eldest sons of their current majesties; George, Prince of Wales, Frederick, Bishop of Osnaburg and William Henry Duke of Lancaster. Written on one side of a single piece of parchment, with bottom edge turned up, fastened together with white cloth tape, sealed and signed by the parties. Both seals, red identical matrix for both; a running fox. Map of the property on paper, fixed by tape and seal at bottom, left. Shows O'Connell St., William and Thomas Street junctions; George St. marked "Street leading from the new bridge", William St. "Street leading to the New Square" and Thomas St. as "Cross St."; Thomas St. George's St junction in form of an octagonal square with church at centre; church to be demolished and simple cross roads put in, the squaring off sections are marked separately A-D and A is subject of this lease. Black outline, to properties, yellow blocks, pale pink-sepia blocks A-D, scale below 3 inches to 200 feet. Revd. Dean Hoare, Mr. Fitzgerald, John Westropp, Thomas Maunsell, William Hogg, Sir Henry Hartstonge all marked as property holders on map. Folded in half, then from both ends to the centre, then in half again. Witnessed on one end after first fold; signatures of Pryce Peacock and Edward Byrne. Annotated as to contents, on outside as fully folded. "Fol 423" marked on outside (same no as in 1987.122, map of 1823).At top "165" crossed out and replaced by "144". Two blue stamps, one rectangular "Finally Delivered", the other oval and partially filled out in Ms., "[Maltese cross] H.C.J.I. [Maltese Cross]/ Land Judges, Deeds Office" around, at centre "Box [ms]8457-8-9/ Sch [ms]A/ No. [ms]64". In blue pencil "4" in a circle.
