Puttee, leather. Part of Royal Irish Constabulary uniform of D. Naughton. Right puttee; thin flat metal strip sewn down the inside of one edge, engages a metal loop on the other side to close; at top a strap sewn to the inside of the loop side passes through an eye in the other side to a buckle on the outside of the loop side. One piece of leather, with second strengthening layer down the insides of the closing and at bottom, with a narrow edging band around the top. At two points around the top edge are pairs of punched holes with a short length of string through, neither of which serves an obvious purpose unless for hanging the puttee up.
