Map; framed, "The Province of Mounster by I. Speed", engraved by Jocodus Hondius, and published by Bassett and Chiswell 1676. Printed in black on white,and hand coloured, showing N. Clare to be in Connaught. Inset plan of Limerick City, with key below, at top left and ditto of Cork in bottom right, with key incorporated into inset. Title in elaborate frame at top right surmounted by a crowned shield with the Harp of Ireland on a green field. Scale, three and three sixteenth inches to 20 Irish miles, at bottom left with a depiction of a bearded cloaked and bare legged man holding dividers and a pointer in his hands over the scale. A fish and a galleon are depicted off the Waterford coast; and a boy playing the harp and riding on the back of a large fish depicted off the Shannon estuary. Inscribed at bottom "Jodocus Hondius Celavit" to left, and right of centre "Are to be sold by Tho: Bassett in/ Fleet Street, and Richard Chiswell in/ St. Paul's Churchyard." Coloured blue, green, yellow, orange and purple. Key for Limerick inset reads; "A St Iohns Streete and Gate, B The thye Bridge [Baal's, C Th Main Streete of the City, D New Gate, E Our Ladies Church, F The key, G The kinges Castle, H Thomond Bridge, I St Frances Abbey, K St Peters, L St. Dominicks Abbey, N The Bishops House, M St Monschius Church, O S Michaells Church" [letters M and N are transposed]. White card mount, with veneered? moulded wooden frame; harboard backing held in place by brown paper; framers sticker on back, printed in white on black reads "Kevin Cummins/ Frame Maker Mount Cutting Specialist Fine Art Prints/ M.S. Frames Limited,/ Post Office Lane,/ Limerick/ Ireland/ 061-47666". Attachments at sides for hanging and corded for hanging.
