Gun, fragment of, iron. Barrel and bolt action of a rifle, lacking the wooden stock and trigger. Identified by Ray Walsh as an 1891, 7.2mm "Howth" Rifle. Inscribed "P" under the bolt section. The barrel widens in diameter in four stages between the muzzle and the bolt. The foresight is a thin sheet of metal set longitudinally on top of a roughly triangular piece welded to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is set at the end of the third section of barrel , immediately adjacent to the fourth; a rectangle of metal is welded to the barrel and has a V-nick in the centre. The bolt is rusted into the barrel.
