Buckle, Limerick silver, by William Fitzgerald c 1800. Elliptical belt buckle; cast open-work with scrolls and rosettes and a beaded edge. On reverse is a central pin (iron?) around which two pieces swivel independently; the first of these has a sleeve around the pin running most of its length, and two prongs are set onto this which close to the front of the buckle. The other is a loop attached near either end of the pin and running parallel to the pin, which swivels on the reverse of the buckle; it has three small projections, presumably to grip the leather; the single mark "WFG" is on this loop next to the central projection.
