Lace. Sample of braid or tape lace made by Mary O'Neill, Limerick School of Art and Design 1904-47. The piece has a definite front and back. The back is made of two panels of plain raw silk joined by lace; the lower panel contains a single piece of cloth, while the upper panel is made up of three pieces, the centre being twice the size of the edges, the pieces being joined by lace borders. The front has a separate silk panel joined only by the vertical lace of the back continuing down the front. The front is in two piece, a silk panel with an intricate wide lace border below. The lace appears to consist of two types of thread, silk of the same colour as the panels used on the highlights against a white cotton?lined thread. Front and back sewn together at sides with a white tape stiffener/protector sandwiched between the two.
