Postcard, novelty, colour illustrated, also b/w views, matt. Obv: A colour illustration of a puppy, given a human expression on its face, beside an open tin of paint, from which there is the handle of a brush protruding. On the floor in front is another brush, and there are splashes of paint around it. On the wall behind the puppy is written, in caps, L U V, descending, from top, centre, to right, centre, with drips of paint descending from each letter. The paint is white, the wall is red - brown, the wainscot is cream, the floor red, the tin of paint pale green with darker stripe top and bottom, and green label border, the dog is white with black spots on back and shoulder, and flesh tint on paws, muzzle, and eyelids. There is a white border, wider at the top. Title, black, top. Bottom left, black, 1587, bottom right, artists signature, (illegible). There is a flap cut into the obv. The upper edge is not cut through, providing a hinge. The upper and lower corners are rounded. The lower edge is concave. The flap lifts to reveal a folded series of 12 b/w views of Limerick. Visible when the flap is lifted initially is a short flap with Limerick. / Valentine and Sons Ltd., Dundee and London. When the views are unfolded by pulling this flap down, they are, from the top, (all caps) O'Connell St, / Limerick. J.V., Thomond Bridge, Limerick. (space) J.V., St. Mary's Cathedral. / Limerick. At the back of the flap a small tab is stuck on, its lower edge clear of the lower edge of the flap. This slips under the card edge exposed, retaining the flap in the closed position. Rev: Divided in the centre by a line, vertical, starting and ending short of the margin.
