Core scraper? Red quartzite beach pebble, formerly oval. D-shaped cross- section. The natural water-polished surface remains along one side. The pebble was split transversely forming a striking platform towards one end, from which it was split longtitudinally and flaked along the curved face, forming an overhanging chisel edge at the opposite end from the striking platform. There are two further contiguous longtitudinal flake scars on the curved face. Steep secondary flaking on the striking platform at the flat face forms a sharp-edged end scraper. The other edges of the flat face are also sharp and could have been used as scrapers. Some cracking, perhaps due to heat. Neolithic L. 8.0; W. striking platform 4.8; T. Max 3.6; Wt. 255.3 Cashen River / Co Kerry / Core in white ink on the curved natural surface
