Bowl, Limerick silver by Joseph Johns, c. 1740. Plain round bottomed bowl on a short conical ring base, the body expanding evenly to a plain everted rim. There is a double groove around the bowl immediately below the rim. The base is soldered to the bowl, and has a ridge and groove at its rim. There are blobs of surplus solder inside the base. The centre of the base has a 2mm diameter hemispherical hollow. One side of the bowl is engraved with the arms of George Frend of Coraville, Co Limerick, on an oval shield outlined with scrolls on a floral cartouche. Shield gules, a chevronel argent, three stags heads forward, argent, two above, one below. Marks: II, lion rampant between, on shield, on base. Scratches on base, amongst which: c/mb/; 12(7?)
