Ladle, Limerick silver by Thomas Burke. Circular hemispherical bowl. The handle, curving downwards from the top, widens from above the bowl, and is round pointed at the top. Bright cut feather edging to handle. In the centre of the point of the handle is a circle surrounded by rays. Below the widest point of the handle is an oval of punched D-shapes, containing the O'Brien crest, an arm in armour, bent, holding a sword, facing l. Above the oval, from the edges of the handle to the circle above, on each side, is a line of V shapes, pointing upwards, with a single dash below the lowest. Within this is a V shape formed of double lines of dots. Below the oval is a vertical line of five arrow shapes, the sides splaying, with a dot in circle above each, and seven dots vertically below the lowest. On the R/ of the handle are ornate initials AD or ND. Marks: T.B. in rectangle, Sterling, fleur de lis, on underside of the narrowest part of the handle. Repair to a crack down one side of the bowl.
