Coloured view across river to King Johns Castle from immediately downriver of Thomond Bridge. L. foreground, a boat with sail lying towards the stern, two people sitting on the sail looking towards castle. A barrel and a rowing boat tied to the stern, a log? below the rowing boat. To r. of centre, a rowing boat in centre of river going upstream. St Munchins Church, shown to the S of the spire, and the present tollhouse behind bridge. Two tall rectangular buildings on Castle Street, that behind stepped out. Steps from the castle green to the base of the NW tower, people at top and bottom of steps. A line of soldiers drilling between river and castle wall, which is in poor condition, with jagged top. Building in centre of castle wall jutting out from it. Pointed arch gate in castle wall between this and SW tower, which is shown as a flat topped cone. Garrison buildings in courtyard.
