Trowel. Silver with ivory handle. Trowel inscribed: Presented to / the Most Rev. Dr. O'Dwyer, Lord Bishop of Limerick / on the occasion of his laying the / foundation stone / of the new chapel of / Our Lady / of the / Immaculate Conception / Mount Prospect / Limerick / 8 December 1903 / W.H. Byrne .... Architects. Curving ornamental outline to blade, which is richly engraved with floral, scroll and geometric motifs. Join of handle and blade in the form of a leaf. The ivory section of the handle is waisted, with the Arms of the Diocese of Limerick engraved in the centre, ornamented at the ends with contiguous raised ribs forming four leaf shaped outlines around the handle at each end. A round ivory boss screws into the tip of the handle. Hallmarked London, d for 1899, makers initials G.J., D.F.
