Snuff-box, Limerick silver and cowrie shell, by Jonathan Buck. The main container portion is made from the back of a cowrie shell, white speckled with brown, with silver mount around the edge to take the lid. The slightly bowed lid is hinged towards the broader end, where the amount around the edge has been extended to form the receiving end of the lid. Single mark, I B, in a rectangle, struck on the inside of the lid. The lid has the remains of an engraved monogram which is mostly worn off. There is a single crack in the shell.
