Axe or chopper, stone. Grey and brown shale? Trapezoidal in outline, with convex broad end, the narrow end broken and flaked to a triangular point at one corner. One long edge is straight and flat, the natural stone edge. The other edge is straight, steeply flaked on one face, with a large flake-scar with secondary working centrally on the other face, producing a sharp edge, curved in long-section. The convex end has blunted flake-scars on both faces, which together with a blunted flake-scar nearby on the flat edge, seem to provide a hand grip for striking with the point. The faces are flat, one scarped towards the point, the remainder of the effected layers peeling at the edges. Neolithic L. (point to opposite corner) 20.5; W. broad end 14.95, narrow end 7.8; T. max 2.6; Wt. 970.2g Fisherstreet / 1910 / large axe or chopper handwritten in black ink on one face, now faded.
