Address, illuminated, to Rev P J Coleman CC from the tenant purchasers of the Knight of Glin's estate, c.1904. Framed. Rectangular outline with stepped out corners and convex centres top and bottom. Outer border pale green with scrolling shamrocks and gold dot flowers. Inner border of celtic revival animal interlace in dark red, yellow and gold, the top corners independent patterns of animal interlace within gold borders mirroring each other, but with the detail in each of different colours. On centre of top inner border a coloured photo bust of Bishop O'Dwyer, a cross on his chest, in a gold border. On centre of bottom inner border a coloured photo of recipient in priests dress holding a prayer book, in pointed oval gold border. At bottom l. corner, a coloured drawing of old castle, Glin, titled on arc below: A geraldine stronghold besieged by Sir George Carew / in the reign of Elizabeth. At bottom r. corner, a coloured drawing of the Treaty Stone titled on acr below: Treaty Stone, Limerick. Text headed in ornate lettering (red) Address (gold harp with shamrocks spiralling over text to each side) To The / (pale purple) Rev. P.J. Coleman. C.C. Body of text in four paragraphs, the first word of each ornate, blue. Card mount cut to follow outline of address, its bevelled edge gilt. Double framed, the inner plain, the outer a highly ornate gilt frame, now largely pale brown, with pellet inner border, bevel with repeating pattern of a pelleted leaf in an arched outline, the front raised cylinder with leaf ornament, the outer edge, at the back of the frame, with egg and dart pattern. Framers sticker overlaps bottom of wooden back panel and bottom of inner frame: Framed by / P. O'Connor / carver and gilder / 75 Catherine Street / Limerick, in black rectangle with geometric floral device at inside of corners.
