Whistle, police, chrome-plated brass, made by A De Courcy & Co, Birmingham, 1916, with leather strap. Cylindrical body fitting into a waisted mouthpiece at one end and an endpiece with ring at the other. Central longtitudinal dividing plate and a rectangular slot cut from the body off-centre towards the mouthpiece. Seam along one side of the body. The ring, a D-sectioned bar with the ends set parallel together forming a tang which fits into the endpiece, is on the same plane as the dividing plate. Engraved on one side, from the top: A. De Courcy & Co / Frankfort St / Birmingham / 1916. The strap is made from a strip of leather 7mm wide, the edges sewn together for most of its length forming a cylinder, a plain ring buckle with a leather and a metal strap retainer at one end, the other with seven perforation. The sewing has come undone opposite the buckle where the ring sat when the whistle was worn.
