Document, legal; manuscript on parchment. Renewal of lease by Edmond Henry Earl of Limerick to William Hartigan of land in South Priorsland, dated Sept. 28th 1838, for three lives. Renewal of 1998.042 with the late William IV (formerly Duke of Lancaster) substituted with Maurice O'Connell as one of lives. Folded up at bottom and held together at sides with strips of parchment; in centre two strips of pink tape, sealed at front, and with signature of parties to left of seals. Red wax, same matrix for both, a swan in a rectangle with rounded corners. Witnessed on reverse Henry ?? and G.L. Russell? (both with London addresses) for the Earl and Richard A. Somerville and Michael Egan for Hartigan. Blue paper embossed stamp duty stamp at top left; a crown with "GR" to left and "III" to right over "Five shillings" over bust of George II in an oval surrounded by sheaves of corn mixed with shamrocks, over "Ireland"; brown on white paper stamp on reverse of blue, crowned GR monogram. Above blue paper a circular stamp in which "2Sh/ 6 Pen" in black and "Limerick", straight, in brown. Folded three times and then from the ends to the middle and then in half. Annotated as to contents on front as folded; below annotation in different hand "Confirmed &/ approved of/ ?????" and "423"; "Henry O'Shea" at bottom right. Two stamps on front; one rectangular "Finally/ Delivered" the other oval with "[maltese cross] H.C.J.I. [maltese cross]/ Land Judges, Deeds Office" around centre "Box [ms]8457-8-9/ Sch [ms]A/ No [ms]67". on front "4" in a circle in blue pencil. On reverse as folded "No. 99 Rental", in pencil.
