Document, legal; manuscript on parchment. Renewal of lease 1998.038 by the Earl of Limerick to John Hartigan McKnight, for lands in South Priorsland, dated first of May 1828. Of the three lives in the original lease George Prince of Wales now George IV, Frederick of Osnabruck Duke of York and William Henry Duke of Lancaster (William IV), Frederick deceased and replaced by McKnight himself. Single sheet folded up and sewn together with pink tape at two points in centre and with parchment at either side; red seal over tape, with signature of parties to side; red wax, plain trellis matrix for Limerick; McKnight an oval containing a shield with two crests, at left a lion's head at right a forearm holding a sword, shield quartered top l. and bottom r. three lion's heads, top r. and bottom l. a lion rampant with sword in each paw, motto under "Omnia Fortunae Committo". Blue paper stamp duty stamp at top left; upper part embossed with a crowned garland of shamrocks with "Ireland/ GR/ IV" over and "Lease/ July/ 1823" at centre; lower a crowned harp, with thistle rose and leek? to side, with "Ireland/ GR IV" over and "Ten Shillings" below. Lead strip though blue paper at centre of both designs, carrying the design in the metal; on reverse two white stamps with Crowned GR monogram in brown. Folded three times, then from either end to the middle and then in half. Witnessed on reverse, Mat. Barrington for Limerick, James Skehan and John Flyn? for McKnight. Annotated as to contents on outside as fully folded; "423" in different ink below, and to right "Barringtons". Two blue stamps, one rectangular "Finally Delivered" and the other oval "[Maltese Cross] H.C.J.I. [maltese Cross]/ Land Judges Deeds Office" around "Box [ms]8457-8-9/ Sch [ms]A/ No [ms. 65]" in centre. Blue pencil "4" in a circle. In pencil on reverse "No 97 Rental?".
