Sauce boat, Limerick silver by John Strit, c. 1775. Three shell knuckle hoof feet, the body with three curving flutes between each pair of feet, above each foot three punched ovals diminishing in size, those above the back feet curving, matching the flutes, those above the front foot straight, with an additional set below the spout. Below the rim on each side are short punched vertical lines. Flying double-scroll handle, the top in the form of a leaf with broad central rib, the curve of the bottom scroll soldered to an applied losenge on the body. Marks: on the base, IS in crowned harp outline twice, opposed to each side of engraved initials IHC, the H elevated, three short nicks between the I and C. A short diagonal mark to the l. of the losenge, also visible on the inside, may indicate a repair. Some scratches on the inside base
