Illuminated address, framed. Ornate Celtic interlace rectangular border in red, yellow, blue and gold, incorporating at centre top a photo. of Wm. Humphries in a cut-out oval, head and shoulders of a bearded man looking left, at centre bottom in a rectangular cut-ut a colour drawing of the Main Post office. Text inside is heavily illuminated in red blue and gold at start but lower down the text is mostly in black with occasional red letters. Text "21st May 1904/ Address/ and/ Presentation/ To Wm. F. Humphries Esq./ Engineer, Postal Telegraphs Limerick/ On his retirement from the Engineering Department/ Of the General Post Office./ Dear Mr Humphries,/ On behalf of the Staff of the Southern District of Ireland/ and on behalf of some Official friends outside that district, we present you with/ this address, and, at the same time, we beg you to accept, as an additional mark/ of their, and our, appreciation of your many good qualities, a Clock and Purse of Sovereigns. We further venture to hope that Mrs Humphries may be pleased to accept/ the Ring accompanying the above; very many of your friends have cause to know her worth/ and kindliness./ Your retirement after so honourable a service of close on half a century is a fitting/ occasion for the expression of the feelings of those who have had the pleasure of working with/ you, and all testify to the fact that you have, with good reason, enjoyed the confidence and/ esteem of the Heads of Department, the good will and affection of your colleagues, and/ the respect of those under your control./ It is with deep sincerity that we join in wishing Mrs Humphries and/ yourself much happiness for the future./ Yours very faithfully,/ [there follows signatures in two columns; left] H. Ornate plaster and gilt frame; inner edge plain, centre portion has repeating raise C-scroll motifs around, outer portion has open-work edge with C-scroll ornament around the openings. Sealed with brown paper on reverse. Some foxing of the card mount, some chipping of the plasterwork around the edges
