Postcard, b/w, matt; portrait style. Cartoon of a bishop in full regalia, with one foot resting on a roll of paper inscribed "English Education Bill" the roll has human features showing a pained expression, while he knocks over a fat gentleman with his crosier; the man is holding a club in his right hand labelled "Irish Party" and has a sheet of paper in his pocket on which is "Congratulations from the Archbishop of Westminster; in the background is a ruined building with "Christian Bros School" on the wall; around the head of the bishop are the phrases "Irreligious Blackguardism", "Political Brokers", "Ratting" and Irish Clemencaus"; in the bottom right is a signature "FitzPatrick". Under cartoon reads "In the Old Days/ "I do not think that any Irish Bishop need have any grave apprehension/ on account of the irreligious blackguardism which any Irish Clemenceau/ may attempt to bring to bear against him... As far as I can judge/ the Irish Party have nothing behind them. They represent no opinion-Catholic or Irish- but are the puppets of the English Liberals in this matter."/ -Extract from the Bishop of Limerick's letter to the "Freeman's Journal",/ 15th December, 1906." Reverse printed in black; "Post Card" at centre top, with double underlining and central vertical line; up left edge "Fergus O'Connor, Dublin.- Publisher to the Trade. Three pencil dealer's marks; at top left "IR POL"; to bottom left of centre "E" and "£6" to right of centre at bottom. Unposted and unused.
