Blade, iron with wooden handle, for cutting vegetables e.g. turnips. The blade is made of a flat rectangular sheet of metal attached to a C-shaped iron bar of rectangular cross-section, and the arms of the C set into a circular wooden handle. One of the arms of the C is deliberately longer than the other, so the handle is not parallel to the blade, and the blade is more worn at the longer end. The blade is fastened to one side of the C-bar with four round flat headed rivets. The C-bar is inserted through the handle and the two ends of the metal are turned over slightly to grip the wood. The wooden handle, ash?, is suffering from dry-rot and is riddled with woodworm holes. There are three nails in the handle which have no apparent function.
