Sugar-tongs, Limerick silver, by Maurice Fitzgerald, c 1780. Shell type grips, both arms expanding in width to the bend; bright cut along both arms; oval on the bend engraved with an unidentified crest of a couchant dog of spaniel type [or a talbot], superimposed with the initials I.F.C., the F being raised above the level of the other two letters. Marks on the inside of the bend; "MFG" in a rectangle, stamped three times; marks slightly worn.
