Postcard, colour, glossy; John Hinde. Front has a lower white margin captioned "The Treaty Stone, King John's Castle and River Shannon, Limerick City, Ireland.", with "Colour Photo by John Hinde, F.R.P.S." in smaller print. The view shows the Treaty Stone from Clancy Strand, at slightly left of centre, with the arches of Thomond Bridge; the gatehouse and north-west tower of the castle form the right margin, with St. Munchin's Church at the left; to the right of the stone a family group of two children with parents and grandparents admire the stone; behind them two men chat against the river wall, an elderly man in flat cap stands nest to them, while a small boy is watching the camera from the left of the stone; there are several pedestrians and cyclists on the bridge but no motorised vehicles. The reverse is printed in both red and black. At bottom left is a red rectangle in the centre of which is an outline map of Ireland in white, with a black dot over Limerick and an arrow pointing to the dot; to the right of this in black "THE TREATY STONE, LIMERICK CITY: Limerick/City on the River Shannon is long remembered in Irish history for its famous sieges of 1690 and 1691. The Treaty Stone is said to be the stone on which/ the Treaty of Limerick was signed in 1691. The guarantee/ of religious freedom contained in the Treaty was/ repudiated hence Limerick's familiar title "City of the/Violated Treaty."
