Map, mounted, of Limerick 1740 Map of the city from just north of Island Gate to south of John's Gate, showing the city with star shape defences around the Irish town. Coloured by hand, with the buildings in a red-brown and the countryside around in a dirty yellow-green. King's Island, River Shannon, Thomond Bridge and Balls Bridge all named on the map, other principal features lettered and listed in a key, A-N (see assoc.) at bottom left. Directional flow arrows on the Shannon and Abbey rivers; scale at bottom right, 1/4 mile to 1.3/4 ins.. The map has been cut from a book and mounted/glued onto cream coloured card which is itself fastened with sellotape within the card frame. Olive green mount, with gold line around the map.
