Cup, Limerick silver, by Joseph Johns c 1740-50. Large two handed cup, with double scroll handles and a horizontal rib around the middle of the cup, pedestal base. The only mark is a double-I, separated by a lion rampant; the mark is below the rim next to one of the handles. Engraved with a coat of arms; the shield shows on the left three chevronels between three martlets; on right a lion rampant between three fleurs-de-lis; shield surmounted by a helm, with crest of a martlet; accompanying documentation shows the arms to those of the Singleton and D'Alton families, and possibly marked the marriage of John Singleton to Marcella D'Alton (see Burke's Landed Gentry).
