Whiskey Jar, ceramic, stoneware. Globular, expanding to domed top, slightly expanded foot, mouth in centre of top, short neck with collar, neck flares to top, flat top. 2 gallon. Edge of base bevelled. Cream coloured to above point of greatest diameter, pale yellow above. Strap handle, applied. Base flat. At top, opposite handle, stamped, black, double oval, the smaller inside the larger, the shape of each being formed by a double line. In outer oval: Mc.CARTHY'S / (shamrock, left and right between the words) / LIMERICK (letters hatched), and in inner: WHOLESALE / (line) / WINE STORES / (line) / ONLY. Below bottom edge of outer oval: JOHN JAMESON'S VERY OLD WHISKEY / A SPECIALITY. Right, near handle, in oval stamp: GROSVENOR / EAGLE POTTERY GLASGOW.
