Card, membership, The Irish National League, 1880s. Printed dark green on pale green. O/ Rectangular border with circular corners, a rosette on star in each corner. The upper third has the border ornamented with fret design, containing scenes, to l. a man digging, to r. a blacksmith hammering; above, centre, within a separate round topped rectangular border bearing zig-zag and triangles, a scene of industrial buildings behind a body of water. The scenes are cut by a rounded arch bearing the title in Irish script, and below the arch, a view of Parliament Buildings, College Green, Dublin. The lower two thirds is lined for membership details within a border bearing vine scrolls on the sides and interlace panels below, with a shamrock in the top corners. Above, small: Union is Strength, underlined / (blank line) / was admitted a member / of ... branch / this .. day of .. 188. / (blank line) / Hon Secy. Below border, small: Alley & Co., Dublin. The blanks are filled in faded pencil. R/ Border of double lines, title above on panel. Within main panel: This League has been formed to attain for / the Irish People the following objects:- / 1st.
