Clay tobacco pipe by L Hartney, Limerick. Complete. Near upright conical bowl, the stem slightly conxex along its length. There are large seam ridges on the bowl and stem on opposite faces, which continue as low ridges along the stem. On one side of the bowl, raised, a shield under an Irish crown, the shield inscribed Home Rule, two shamrocks from the base of the shield below the script. On the opposite side a similar shield and crown, inscribed For Ireland, a round tower and wolfhound at base of shield. One side of the stem is impressed L Hartney in rectangle, the other side Limerick in rectangle. The mouthpiece has a slight rim, and is brown stained. Broken at stem - bowl junction and repaired
