Wine funnel and stand, Limerick silver by Samuel Johns, c.1780. Funnel stem: Applied upright rim with ornament of two ridges with concavity between, a groove on the summit of each ridge, and a groove above the top ridge. Below the rim is a slight inward step, below which is a rounded conical funnel, to which the stem is applied, with a grooved tapering moulding at the junction. The stem tapers, and is bent above the base, which is cut off diagonally. The inside of the funnel section has concentric circles, as if lathe turned. Marks: SJ in rectangle, and STERLING, on stem, both marks worn.
