Level, wooden, ornamental, presented to Mayor William Geary on the laying of the foundation stone of Mathew Bridge, 1845. Inverted T-shape, in two parts, joined, with metal suspesion hoop at top. Shaped outline with heart shapes and shamrock shape on upright, shamrocks and wave shapes on cross member. Half oval opening in the centre of the cross member, with a vertical groove from the apex of the opening to the top of the upright. Shamrocks painted in gold on the lower heart shape of the upright. Arms of Limerick surrounded by banners, spears, cannons and drum to r. of the opening; crest of Geary, antelope head emerging from a crown in garter with motto Celer in Virtute, to l. Inscribed in gold to l. and r. of cross member: Presented to the Rt. Worshipful Wm. J. Geary, Esq. M.D. Mayor of Limerick / by Jn. Duggan. on his laying the first stone of the bridge, Novr. 29, 1845.
