Watch, pocket, lever-fusee, by L E Ryan, Limerick. White dial with black Roman numerals and circle for seconds below with Arabic numerals. Silver case ornamented on the back with a lattice formed by arc lines and at centre, slightly raised, a plain shield in garter. The inside of the back is hallmarked HS in oval (for H.J. Stuart), lion on shield, three wheatsheafs and sword on shield (for Chester), and gothic N in rectangle with clipped corners for 1876 - 77, and stamped 997. The inner case has a circular key perforation ornamented around with a circle of arcs and is engraved: Presented / by the / Limerick Bakers Society / to / Mr Michael Prendergast / Late President / as a slight token of their appreciation / of his valuable services / during his term of office / June 3rd 1885 / (curved) John Godsell, President / Michael McNamara, Treasurer / James Ryan, Secretary. The works are accessed from the front, held by a catch at the base of the dial. The inside of the inner case has the same hallmarks as the outer and the stamped number 70997. The movement, of copper alloy, has a cover held by a spring lever. The movement is engraved, above, Limerick / 70997, and at bottom edge, L.E. Ryan. Silver suspension ring held by a screw through ball suspender, the suspender hallmarked on the front, lion in rectangle with clipped corners and date letter gothic small b in rectangle with clipped corners (Chester 1865-66), and on the back, makers mark JJ in oval. The ring is marked on the front left with lion in rectangle, worn. The glass is missing and the hands are not original.
