Arms, royal, of Charles II from the City Exchange, 1685. Wood. Arms carved from a single piece of oak? and set into a surround in the form of an overmantle. Unicorn on r. painted white, lion on l. creamy fawn. Rest painted blue and red with detail in gold. Arms held in place in the mantel opening with two wood battens. The overmantle uprights have imitation spiral pillars with capitals of drapery. The entablature has two orders of moulding with an upper row of acanthus leaf. Overmantle painted pale blue with gold highlights on the capitals and lower mouldings. Wood of overmantle different to arms. Restored by Susan Mulhall, Blackwood Castle, Robertstown, Naas, Co Kildare, 1990. Published NMAJ 4, 3, Spring 1945.
