Chair, mayoral, wood and leather. Made by Joseph P Lynch (Bedford Row, Limerick) in 1897 to celebrate 700 years of incorporation of the city. Square back uprights with pyramid finials and interlace decoration on front and side. Triangular panel above the top rail with city arms in circle, with city motto on edge, and Limerick 1197 at bottom. Three back rails with two intermediate uprights, giving nine panels to the back. Top l., crest, arm holding sword, O'Brien crest; centre, harp and shamrocks; top r., Treaty Stone. Middle l. and r. interlace patterns. Centre padded back-rest of green leather. Bottom l., castle gatehouse; bottom centre, inscription: Michael Cusack, Mayor, Stephen B. Quin, High Sheriff, William M Nolan, Town Clerk, W E Corbett CE City Surveyor, Joseph Lynch fecit 1897. At bottom r., Papal insignia. All rails and uprights have interlace decoration. The arms, partly padded, heavily decorated with interlace, run to finials of the front legs, which are in the form of animal heads with interlace below running to the base of the legs. The seat is padded green leather, now dark green. The side stretchers and cross stretchers have interlace decoration. With a foot stool of wood, simple table type.
