Palstave, bronze, patinated black. High cast flanges joining the haft at right angles. The flanges have been hammered inwards, forming a crack on the outside surface of one and tearing the edges of two others. The butt is straight and flat, with a short central longtitudinal cut. The stopridges, approx. halfway along, rise almost vertically from the haft and have been hammered at the top forming shallow false pockets. From the blade end, the stopridges slope upwards at an angle of c.60 degrees. The flanges continue for a short distance beyond the stopridge. The sides, which are slightly convex in cross-section at the haft end and flat on the blade end, run almost parallel from the butt before splaying rapidly towards the cutting edge. The cutting edge and extremities of the splay have been cut off and flattened.
