Aerial view of cathedral from south-west, showing grounds as well, with two houses at corner of Bridge St and Merchant's Quay standing at bottom centre, CBS school in view, houses on Crosbie Row at top left. Reverse printed in black; at centre top a trade mark of a strip of film wrapped around a single engine monoplane, with "Aero Views Ltd., Dublin" on film; up centre as division "A reproduction of a real colour photograph by Aero-Views Ltd., Dublin"; to left at top "St. Mary's Cathedral on King's Island, Limerick, was founded by/ Donal Mor O'Brien, King of Thomond, when he granted his own/ palace for the purpose after the fire of 1176. The original/ Romanesque-Transitional structure was cruciform reflecting/ the influence of contemporary Cistercian architecture. Repeated/ alterations and restorations, and a series of chantry chapels, a/ west tower and south porch added in later centuries, have/ altered its appearance.
