Postcard, b/w, matt; portrait style; white margin around with title at left of bottom margin "John's Castle, Kilmallock." View shows King's Castle, with partially blocked arch, and a short length of street running up to it; a crowd of children are outside the castle t o left of the arch and on the right pavement are four women with three children walking towards camera. There is a trace of the cancellation across the front of the card. Reverse printed in black; at centre top a shield, in which "Signal/ Series/ E & S Ltd/ D & B" with "Post" to left, "Card" to right and vertical dividing line below. Up left edge "(Copyright)- Parkinson, Kilmallock. (Printed in Saxony)"; box for stamp at top right largely obscured by stamp. Orange two pence postage revenue stamp of George VI, definitive issue. Wavy line cancellation across card, with repeating "Shepton Mallet/ Somerset/ 10 AM/ 3 NOV 49". The left edge is embossed "St Michael's Ch[urch]/ Shepton Mallet/ Somerset". Addressed to Franciscan Convent, Woodchester Glos, from the parish priest J. Metcalfe requesting a supply of altar breads. Pencil dealer's marks, "Lim" at top left and "£3.50" at bottom left of centre.
