Postcard, b/w, matt; portrait style, depicting two sides of a banner, with title below "Sent from Limerick, in June to the/ 8th Battalion Royal Munster Fusiliers./ This is the third Religious Banner borne by Soldiers/ since the Crusades./ The first was the Standard of Blessed Joan of Arc, and the/ second that of the Pontifical Zouaves./ This banner has been worked by the Good Shepherd Nuns and/ subscribed for by the friends of the Munsters."One side shows Christ with a kneeling woman in a central oval with motto around "Tu rex gloriae Christe parce domine parce populo tuo" with rectangles in upper right and lower left corners, the former showing the Chi-Rho monogram with alpha and omega; the latter what appears to be two 8s interlinked with an A. On the reverse "Quis ut deus" across centre with shamrocks in each corner, the upper part of each trefoil showing a harp, while the two on the left read "RMF" below the harp; the lower one on right "1916" and the upper "GS?".Reverse printed in green; "Post Card" at centre top, underlined with short division line below; "Only the address to be written here" to the right.; box for stamp at top right corner in which "A/ half-penny/ stamp to/ be placed here". Unposted and unused. Pencil dealer's mark at top to right of centre "[pound sign] 2"
